2ND ANNUAL MAHONE BAY REGATTA – JULY 29TH to 31st, 2011
NOTICE OF RACE
SPIRIT OF THE EVENT: This Regatta is organized and run in the spirit of FUN, camaraderie, FUN, sportsmanship, FUN, festiveness and FUN. We encourage the participation of a wide variety of mono- and multi-hull boats offering trophies for gaff- and Bermuda-rigged boats under local and global handicap systems.
COURSES
Inshore Course –This course will be within the confines of Mahone Harbour
Islands Course – For keelboats and centerboard boats, the course will be around the islands and waters of Mahone Bay
CLASSES
Inshore Course – Class “C” under 20’
Island Course – Class “A” Racing Class-boats with a valid NSYA PHRF rating
Class “B” Cruising Class- all other boats
RULES:
Class ‘A’ handicap regatta races will be Governed by the 2010-2012 Racing Rules of sailing (RRS) the prescriptions of the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA), the prescriptions of the Nova Scotia Yachting Association (NSYA) and the rules of the classes racing as one design fleets.
Class ‘B’ handicap regatta races and Class ‘C’ handicap regatta races will have Rules for this Regatta primarily following the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions At Sea, 1972 (excerpts can be found in Appendix Q of the CYA Racing Rules of Sailing or available upon registration). Additional rules to guide the contestants (printed in the CYA rule book) include

ELIGIBILITY: Participants in Class “A” handicap must be a member in good standing of a CYA/NSYA recognized Yacht Club or of their own national Sailing Association. Yachts shall have a valid PHRF-NS rating listed on the NSYA data base.
Participants in the Class “B” Handicap and Class “C” (under 20’) can be centerboard craft, multi-hulls, keel boats and boats participating will be handicapped by the Portsmouth Yard Stick or by the Mahone Bay local handicap rating system.
SCORING: The low point scoring system.
RACES: There will be one race per day on Saturday July 30th and Sunday July 31st for the Island Course and two races per day as wind, time and tide permit for the Inshore Course
REGISTRATION:
$20.00 for the inshore course
$40.00 for the island course
INSURANCE: Each participating boat participating in the island course races shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $1,000,000 per event or the equivalent

1700-1800 Pirate Sail Past all boats invited
1800-onwards: Pirate festivities
Saturday, July 30th
0830-1000 Registration: Mug & Anchor
1000 Skippers Meeting All classes: Mug & Anchor
1200 Warning Signal First Race Class Island Race and subsequent starts per class
Awards will be presented when racing is complete 1600-1700hrs Location TBD
1700 Pirate Festivities
Sunday July 31st

PRIZES:
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each class for each race.
Overall Trophies and will be awarded to the top finishers in each class over the two day regatta
