The Pirates Will Return! Arrrrrr!

Hi Everyone,
A Pirate Weekend up-date.

THE PIRATES WILL RETURN.

Firstly. A big thank you to all those wonderful folk that have come forward to be on the committee, or have pledged to help with the 2011 ‘MAHONE BAY PIRATE FESTIVAL and REGATTA’ .

The meeting last Saturday evening was well attended and we have a strong and enthusiastic Committee in place. There will be an inaugural Committee meeting at the Mug and Anchor pub on Thursday 10th February 7.00pm to kickstart the whole thing off. We have a few positions we would still like to fill, so if anyone wishes to join to this ‘Fun Filled’ team and project, please come along. We intend to keep the committee as a relaxed and informal group as possible.

A huge thank you also goes to ‘The Mahone Bay Chamber of Commerce’ who have agreed to oversee and support the Festival, and also the ’2010 REGATTA and PIRATE DAY’S’ committee who dragged this Festival up from the abyss last year.

Rick Welsford will be Chairman of the new committee, and I believe he will do an excellent job. He is flying to Tampa Bay, Florida, next week to check out their Pirate Festival. Evidently it is quite amazing. There is no way we will get anywhere close to that this year, but sometimes you have to think big. Maybe in a few years everyone will be talking about the ‘Mahone Bay Pirate Festival and Regatta’.

I am hoping that most of last years Pirate volunteers will be joining us again this year. We had a lot of fun during that great weekend. We have also learned a lot from the mistakes of 2010 which will allow us to make it much easier for everyone in 2011. I would very much appreciate it if you could let me know your intentions for this summer’s festival so I can get a feel as to how many Bottom Scrapin’, Swill Drinkin’, Scurvey Dog Pirates will be invading PIRATE BAY this year.

Best Regards.
Scabby Dan.

We need’s to get together a rollickin’ good crew to get stuck into establishin’ the legend of ‘Pirate Bay’ in this ‘ere town forever.
We’s already ‘ad a good start with some Low Life Pirate Sea Dogs volunteering their services. Now all we needs is sum brains an’ this whole crew could be dangerous an’ unstoppable.

Preparing for Pirate Days

As part of the Mahone Bay Regatta celebrations, there will be pirate themed festivities throughout town. Real pirates are expected to be wandering through the streets talking to passers by of their adventures on the high seas and deadly deeds.

One of the highlights of Pirate Days will be the biggest Pirate Reunion the South Shore of Nova Scotia has ever seen. Pirates of all shapes and sizes will congregate on the Mahone Bay wharf for our costume event and re-enactment with long boats, privateers and Kings Orange Rangers…

All pirates are invited to participate in the fun and games. Men, women and children and families can participate in our pirate costume competition- there will be many great prizes to give away in several categories. All great fun so hope to see you there..

Now is the time to start preparing- why not start by learning to talk like a Pirate…. ARRRRRRR !

Who are these Pirates?

At the Mahone Bay Classic Boat Festival in 2009, these rascally pirates turned up at the Saturday afternoon/evening costume event to cause merry mayhem… Eventually they were driven away by the braver young pirates of Mahone Bay.

We never found out who they were, maybe they will be at the Regatta for our Pirate Days?

Do you know who these pirates are? Please leave a comment

Next meeting of the Mahone Bay Regatta Crew is on Thursday June 3. 7:00 pm

at the Mahone Bay Center . PLEASE JOIN US!
