Mahone Bay Pirate Festival and Regatta 2012

PIRATE ACTIVITIES.

 

Friday 3^rd August.

 

12.00 noon.

Pirates will start to slip in and out of town. Their ‘PIRATES LAIR’ camp is on ‘Maders Wharf’ behind the Mug & Anchor pub.

Impromptu pirate marches and mischief will occur all day long.

Some ‘Kings Orange Rangers’ will be visible, but maybe just keeping an eye on things until the full troupe arrive on Saturday.

The pirate ship ‘Larinda’ will arrive and moor by the ‘PIRATES LAIR’ on Maders Wharf.

 

Saturday 4^th August.

Throughout the day, Pirates will mingle with visitors, entering stores, and having a great time. Skirmishes may ensue and there will be much action and noise all day.

The ‘Kings Orange Rangers’ will be active, trying to keep the peace and fully participating in the squabbles and skits etc.

 

10.00 am.

The Pirates will begin to assemble and wander around town, causing mischief.

 

10.30 am. (Approx 10/15 minutes)

‘PIRATE RECRUITMENT’ SKIT in ‘PIRATES LAIR’ on Maders Wharf.

 

12.00 noon.

Having left her moorings early in the morning to collect many scallywag pirates waiting in the bay, the ‘Larinda’ will dock at the wharf with hordes of Pirates aboard. They will disembark to meet up with all other pirates and march through the town to the ‘Bandstand’ where dignitaries await to hand over the key to the town.

 

2.00 pm. (Approx 10/15 minutes)

‘WALK THE PLANK’ SKIT in ‘PIRATES LAIR’ on Maders Wharf.                           .

 

2.30 pm. (Approx 10/15 minutes)

‘PIRATE COOKING’ SKIT in ‘PIRATES LAIR’ on Maders Wharf.

 

3.00 pm.

The prisoner Mad Madeline MacKenzie is paraded through the town before her trial in the Pirate Camp Tent.

 

3.30 pm. (approx 20 mins) 

‘TRIAL OF MAD MADELINE MacKENZIE’ SKIT in ‘PIRATES LAIR’ on Maders Wharf.

 

4.00 pm. (approx 10 to 15 mins)

‘FIRING SQUAD and WALK THE PLANK’.                           On Town Government Wharf.

 

10.30pm

‘BURNING OF THE YOUNG TEAZER’ On Town Government Wharf.

 

Sunday 5^th August.

Throughout the day, Pirates will mingle with visitors.

 

10.00 am.

The Pirates will begin to assemble at the yurt and wander around town, causing mischief.

 

11.30 am. (Approx 10/15 minutes)

Mahone Bay Pirate Festival & Regatta – UPDATE!

The Mahone Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the 2012 Mahone Bay Pirate Festival and Regatta on August 3,4 and 5. The festival continues to build on 22 successful years of the Wooden Boat Festival and last year’s first ever Pirate Festival and Regatta. It’s all about a community’s celebration of our region’s historic and sometimes playful relationship with the sea. Classic boats, pirate exhibits, marauding buccaneers, musicians and competitive sailing events will entertain and engage the whole family.

Mahone Bay has been a treasure since 1754. Piratical activity in Atlantic Canada has been well documented but rarely witnessed. Join us in Mahone Bay for exhibits on the history of local piracy. Experience pirate history for yourself and go on a tour of Oak Island.  Watch out for the annual Burning of the Teazer.

Good food and music are synonymous with Mahone Bay festivals. Watch musical buskers performing throughout town. Enjoy a drink, try some local seafood and take in the beauty of Mahone Bay. There is no doubt you will bump into someone famous and rub shoulders with a pirate or two.

Last years regatta marked the beginning of the annual event designed to engage everyone. Classic or modern, large and small vessels will compete for prizes and trophies. Less formal competition is planned just for fun; build and then race a boat completely made from recycled cardboard or compete in the famous dory races in front of the three churches. There are many prizes but expect stiff competition from marauding pirates. Prizes are awarded daily.

Visit our famous summer flea market, the farmers’ market, our shops and restaurants and experience the beauty and excitement of the 2012 Mahone Bay Pirate Festival and Regatta. Parking areas are located throughout Town. If you come by boat, take advantage of the marina facilities that are available, including hot showers and tender service.

The 2012 Mahone Bay ‘Mystery’ Pirate Festival and Regatta….. No-one knows what’s going to happen, or when something may happen or not happen. So make sure you’re here for the whole three days so you don’t miss what might happen or not happen, and when it might happen or not happen.
